On the New Year Day.....

This new year day on 1st Jan 2007 turned out to be different from the ones in tha past. The new year days had always remained as holidays so far. This time it was termed as "Restricted Holiday" by my Employer.

Since I took "off" on the previous friday, I did n't want to prolong the weekend; decided to go to
office on 1st Jan 2007...

It was a pleasant morning marked by phone calls and SMS messages from my friends and relatives wishing me a happy new year...

The office space wore a deserted look with very few turning up for work.. Obviously the "holiday" mood was there in the air and no body seemed to be interested ro work. Just left the office early by 5 pm itself.

Came home and took my mom to Vadapalani Murugan temple as I had promised her earlier. It was a long queue... Normally it takes hardly 15 mins to complete the "dharsan"....that day we were in queue in more than an hour...

While standing in queue, got to observe people around me... (didn't have any other choice)....

Few people kept talking loudly on their mobile phones...
Some were busy SMSing...
Few others were found lost in their thoughts...
Some kept chatting, teasing & making fun of each other...
Some others are trying to "bypass" the queue with their "intelligence" taking advantage of the gaps here and there...

Started asking myself what for we go to temple.... to realise peace of mind, to offer our prayers, to seek divine forgiving for all the mistakes we commit unconsiously... to seek strength to face the life's challenges.. to thank GOD..

But what happens with few people is the contrary.. Some come to temple just for the sake of coming there.. completely forgetting to realise the sanity of the place...

If we are not self-disciplined even at the place of worship, where else we are going to be !!!!

It was more disgusting to see some people who violate the queues thinking they were more intelligent than others... To whom are they proving their intelligence ?... to the GOD ???.

what you said is truly correct. people are not realising the purpose for going to the temple.

atleast we should be happy that they had come there instead of going to pubs on the new years day !!!

Sami.. There are not too many Pubs in Chennai as you can find in Bangalore.. Might be that I am not aware of the them.
